Years of research has shown that the presence of a mentor in the life of a young person can have an incredible impact on their career trajectory and overall happiness. Having access to mentors is especially important for people of color, who often find themselves navigating the professional world without a roadmap to help get from point A to B.

With that in mind, we are excited to roll out the Inclusv Virtual Mentorship Program! The 2019 Inclusv Mentorship Program aims to cement Inclusv’s long-term mission of establishing equity in the fields of politics, advocacy, and government in this generation and beyond and challenge the traditional paradigms of mentorship that often fail to address or relate to the unique experiences and needs of our members as they navigate their careers and life.

Practically speaking, Inclusv Mentors will be paired with Mentees who work or aspire to work in the same career field. Once paired, they will be asked to have mentoring conversations twice per month for a period of three months (January to March 2019). Conversations will take place via video conference or phone, as mentors may not necessarily be paired with a mentee in the city where they work or reside.

Who should apply to be a Mentor: You should apply to be a Mentor if you are a mid or senior level professional who is eager to support the next generation of political staffers of color. You should be ready to have conversations with Mentees that can be both rewarding and challenging, and you should be able to give approximately two hours a month to the program. Click here to apply to become an Inclusv Mentor!

Who should apply to be a Mentee: You should apply to be a Mentee if you are an individual who seeks knowledge, feedback, and professional guidance from a Mentor whose area of expertise, professional and/or personal experiences relate to your needs. You can be just starting off in your career, searching for advice on how to change fields, or simply seeking support in the professional world. Click here to apply to become an Inclusv Mentee!

Key Dates

The program will run from January 2019 to March 2019. Our team will be reaching out to prospective candidates beginning in mid-October to mid-December 2018. We will be announcing 2019 mentors and mentees in mid-December 2018.

For this cycle, we will be admitting 10-15 pairs of mentors and mentees. The matches will be determined by geography, level of experience, type of industry, professional interests, and personal similarities (i.e. being the first person in your family to attend college). For mentors and mentees who are not selected, we will invite you to a special webinar as we hope to connect as many POC in this space as possible. Non-selected mentors and mentees will also have access to all of the mentorship resources.
